Featured Speaker- Glynis Ridley
Dr. Glynis Ridley has presented lectures to JASNA-Greater Louisville since our founding back in 2008! She never ceases to pack the house with such varied programs on Marianne Dashwood and the Cult of Sensibility, Cpt. Wentworth and the missing years, and even erotic literature of the Regency Era! *GASP* When she is not astonishing us with her vast wealth of knowledge of Georgian and Regency history and its impact on the novels and stories being written at that time, she can be found at the University of Louisville. She has been a member of their faculty in the Department of English since 2004, and is currently serving as Department Chair. Before crossing the pond, Glynis earned a Masters in English Language and Literature from the University of Edinburgh, which she then followed with a Doctorate of Philosophy from Trinity College, Oxford. She has also published two books, one of which won a prize from the Institute of Historical Research and the other resulted in the naming of a new species of nightshade, with more published works on the way!
The members of JASNA-GL are very excited for Dr. Ridley to make her Festival debut this year! She will be presenting two programs over the weekend:
-On Saturday, July 13th, 12:00-1:00 p.m., "Isabella Thorpe’s Northanger Abbey: Gothic Plots and Possibilities"
-On Sunday, July 14th, 1:30-2:30 p.m., "Eleanor Tilney’s Northanger Abbey: Histories of England and Empire."
Of course you will want to make sure you have a good seat under The Big Tent for both programs! Be sure to mark your calendars for the 11th Annual Jane Austen Festival held on the beautiful grounds of Locust Grove in Louisville, KY from July 12th – July 14th.
