January 2019 Meeting

Start 2019 off on the right foot and join us on January 13th at 2 p.m., for "A Certain Step Towards Falling in Love: Dance in Regency England" by Hannah Stoppel.

Dance held an important position in Regency society, and as such, dances and balls are often featured prominently in Jane Austen's novels. Hannah will discuss the critical role that dancing played in Regency England, and how Austen uses dances and assemblies to forward the plots of her novels. Hannah will also cover the structure of a ball, particularly the kinds of public balls that Catherine attends in Northanger Abbey, the kinds of dances that were popular at the time, and how they differ from modern portrayals. A brief demonstration of a popular Regency dance will be included in the presentation!

Join us at Locust Grove (561 Blankenbaker Lane, Louisville, KY) at 2 p.m. for the presentation and afternoon tea.
