March 2017 Meeting

March 2017 Meeting

March 12:  "Hannah More and the Birth of the Sunday School Movement" presented by Mary Landrum

Mary Landrum, Children’s Librarian for the Lexington Public Library, is back with even more scandal to share!  This time, she will present to us the scandalous early days of the Sunday School Movement in England.  Jane Austen was a clergyman’s daughter during a period of upheaval in the Church of England.  Mary will take a look at Jane’s thoughts on Evangelicalism and the start of the Sunday School Movement, which grew under the philanthropist and writer, Hannah More (whom Jane Austen despised her books). Mary states, "Jane hated her. I think I would, too."

The meeting will start at 2 p.m. and will be held at Locust Grove in the Audubon Room.
