"Jane Tech: Technological Advancements During the Life of Jane Austen And the Regency Period"
Our September speaker - Ron Basham - is going to give a presentation that will focus on advancements in steam engine technology and subsequent inventions used in industry and in textile manufacturing occurring after Jane Austen's birth in 1775 through 1817. It asks, but does not always answer, three questions:
▪︎ Did Jane Austen know about and/or use products of this invention?
▪︎ How might this invention have affected her daily life?
▪︎ What does Winston Graham's Poldark book series have to do with the proliferation of steam engine technology in Regency England?
Doors open at 1:30. Feel free to bring a sweet or savory treat to share after the presentation. Please bring your refreshment on your own plate in order to minimize kitchen cleanup.
Location: Locust Grove Auditorium
Time: 2:00-4:00 p.m.
