Jane Austen and Food presented by Bonny Wise
Growing up in the country in the 1960s and 1970s has some similarities to Jane Austen’s time. We grew large gardens, kept chickens and rabbits, hunted for paw paws, hickory nuts, and blackberries in the woods. The men liked to hunt and fish. The diberence of course is that we had the ability to pop into the grocery store for sugar, flour, canned and frozen vegetables and other food staples. We did not have to raise and hunt for every item we put on the table. The Austens were very self-subicient. Through family letters and Martha Llyod’s cookbook we learn a lot about what it took to feed the family and the recipes they used.
We hope you will join us for this view into the Regency world of food and mealtime customs.
